Derek was born in Bristol to Christian parents and became a Christian in his mid-teens. Having felt God’s call to Christian ministry at 19, Derek married Margaret four years later and then entered London Bible College. After completing his studies in 1968, he worked as an evangelist with the National Young Life Campaign and later with the Movement for World Evangelization (specialising in ‘hospitality evangelism’). In 1980 Derek joined Peter Anderson and John Blanchard to form Christian Ministries. After 23 years’ ministry together the team disbanded and all three worked independently in Bible teaching and evangelism.
Derek has spent his life in Bristol. He and Margaret have three sons and six grandchildren. In 1982 Derek became Chaplain to Bristol City Football Club. He serves as Chairman of the Dame Violet Wills Trust.
In 1985 Derek began his longstanding involvement in ministry to evangelists and pastors in India, making numerous visits and still facilitating the provision of practical support for this village work.
Over the years there have been many visits to the United States and also a heavy involvement in Eastern Europe, especially during the days of Communist oppression.
