The Resource Centre relies on many, many donations of food, clothing and furniture to provide for people who come in need. Thank you very much to everyone who gives. This harvest we have seen the food bank shelves filled abundantly through the generosity of churches, schools and individuals, as well as the Royal Navy!
The centre’s operation is powered by volunteers who are generous with their time. Somayeh is one of those, and here she tells her story.
‘I am Somayeh from Iran. I believe that it was God’s plan that chose me and took me out of my country and introduced me to himself and saved my life and brought me here, because today as a believer in Jesus Christ I am living in joy.
Ever since I started at BCM, I have seen love and kindness literally in the actions and behavior of all and I understand the meaning of helping people in need and those who do not even even have food to eat. I can see many people who are financially incapacitated and come to this centre, and the staff give them what they can with complete love and kindness. It is for this they do the work, I can see this from their behaviour. It does not matter what race these people are or what their beliefs are, their only goal is to help.
I consider this an opportunity that God has given me so that I can help others in addition to my life of faith, and I thank God. Sometimes Persian-speaking people from Iran and Afghanistan come here, and this is an opportunity for me to both love them and deliver the message of the salvation of Jesus Christ to them. They feel comfortable when they see that someone with their own language is helping people here. Finally, I thank God that I can serve people at BCM with its staff.’
The food bank has plenty of women’s toiletries, sanitary products and nappies, but are short of men’s toiletries. If you would like to donate, the Resource Centre is open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Thursday, and can be contacted on 0121 766 6603 (ext 1).
