One afternoon a week or so ago Amy, her son Olly, only 15 days old, and her friend came to the Resource Centre (these are not their real names). They needed clothing and furniture for Amy’s new flat which she had moved into on leaving the hospital with her brand new baby boy. Amy is in her early twenties and has had four other pregnancies, all of which miscarried. This time her child was born a healthy 9lb and 15oz!
Amy has eight siblings and they lost their parents when she was 10 years old. She left home aged 16 and lived in shared accommodation. Three months ago, when she was 6 months pregnant, she was asked to move out and went to live with her boyfriend, Olly’s dad, but needed a place of her own. She was offered a council flat, but whilst in hospital having her baby and in intensive care, the offer was withdrawn. Thanks to her boyfriend fighting for the flat, she and Olly are now enjoying a home of their own and Amy has plans to go back to studying for an access course.
She had known the friend who came with her to the Resource Centre, a Christian, from her primary school years, but they met again when Amy was at a very low ebb, posting on Facebook that she felt so sad, as though she couldn’t even open her eyes. Her friend replied and they got to know each other again. Amy believes in God, knows the story of Jesus Christ through RE lessons at school and has invited BCM staff member, Anna Maria, who chatted with her at the Resource Centre, to come to her flat to talk about him more.
Please pray for Amy and Olly as they make a home for themselves, and for Amy as she meets up with Anna Maria and they talk more about Jesus.
