In July we led a three-day activity programme for 20 young people from church youth groups or groups loosely linked to a church. Some came from disadvantaged backgrounds. We sought to provide an enriching experience to young people as they came out of lockdown. There was archery, high ropes and mini golf at Cannon Hill Park. Bible talks were followed by small group discussion.
A number were hugely excited going into the week and for some this had been their first trip out for a long time. One said, ‘I just want to say a massive thank you for having me. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully next year I could volunteer.’
The same boy’s mother said, ‘My son really enjoyed the experience, words of encouragement and support that he is always shown. The experience has helped to boost his confidence to interact more and feel comfortable discussing issues with you. I know that sometimes youngsters find it difficult to discuss certain issues. Thanks for all you do to guide and instil those values that will encourage him to make the right life choices.’
