Excited about the normal

Whilst the Solid Rock holiday club is one of the most exciting weeks of the year for the Children's Team, its main ministry is to share a Bible story with 45,000 children each term.

It is February and that means that Solid Rock is just around the corner. The Children’s Team is busy planning crafts, gathering costumes, polishing Bible stories and finalising the team for one of our most exciting weeks of the year.

This year we are running 4 Solid Rock holiday clubs with up to 50 children each. Most of these come from Muslim families and some of the children have parents, aunts or uncles who came to the club when they were younger. For other children it will be their family’s first contact with Christians outside our regular school assemblies.  It is such a privilege to serve this community and share our faith. This year our theme is Treasured! and we will be sharing Bible stories that look at how everyone is treasured by God no matter how small, unimportant or unrespectable we may be. We would appreciate your prayers. The club will run from 20th to 23rd February.

But this article is about getting excited about the normal. Whilst Solid Rock is wonderful it is not our main ministry and if we could only do one thing we would not choose it. Our primary ministry is to share a Bible story with about 45,000 children each term plus their teachers. It is about explaining the problem of sin and the wonderful solution of Jesus dying on a cross for us. It is about sharing the great news that trusting in Jesus leads to forgiveness and a friendship with God that will last forever. It is about the joy of seeing a room full of children gripped by God’s word as we lead assemblies week by week.

So whilst we value your prayers for Solid Rock, please pray for the exciting norm of assemblies. Pray for continued open doors, for wisdom in deciding the stories, and that as we speak God would take and use our words in the hearts of the children and adults who hear us. Please pray for safe travels between schools, for energy to keep going and that each of the 40 times we tell the story, we will share it with a freshness and an enthusiasm that captures children’s imaginations.
