Room at the inn

More than 90 guests attended two Christmas dinners at the Care Centre, and there was room at the inn for all!

‘Can I have a take-away, please?’ asked a gentleman who comes along regularly to the Care Centre. He lives on his own and said he would save the meal for Christmas Day. In the end he had a meal at the centre and the take-away.

Since re-opening numbers coming to the Care Centre each day have increased from 45 to 65 on average, with one day in November seeing 92 people turning up! Due to the increase in numbers we decided to provide two Christmas meals to avoid turning anyone away. Stan, Alec and the team cooked for a total of 91 people, with Stan and Wes bringing messages of hope. Gifts of chocolates, socks, calendars and deodorants were given to everyone as they left.

One comment made by a guest as they were leaving seems to sum up why we do this work. They said, ‘It’s nice to know that people still care.’  We are so thankful that since reopening nobody has been told, ‘There is no room at the inn.’ So thank you to everyone who supports the work of the Care Centre by praying, volunteering and providing practical support.
